Why Bears fans should root for the Chiefs during tonight's Monday Night showdown

In case two meaningful Bears games in 85 hours wasn't enough, tonight's Monday Night Football ubermatchup may actually have more Bears implications than you'd think.

I know. How could you possibly root for the bane of #BearsTwitter's exisistence, Pat Mahomes?! RyAn PaCe ShOuLd hAvE dRaFtEd HiM iNsTeAd, and all that.

But here's why, for one three-hour stretch on one night for one week, you should invest your emotional wellbeing in the Kansas City Chiefs:

  • It's a good way to scout the competition. The Rams come into Chicago for a Sunday Night Showdown (patent pending) in a little under three weeks. Tonight's game gives the Bears' coaching staff -- who surely are a bit more familiar with the Chiefs than other teams -- a great chance to see how to gameplan against the absurdly-talented yet weirldy-underperforming Rams defense.
  • Friends, it's almost time to talk about not just clinching a playoff spot, but clinching a high seed. Right now the Rams are 9-1. Should they lose tonight, that would make them 9-2. Hope I haven't lost you yet. And should they both beat the Lions (and the Bears beat the Giants), that would mean December 9th's game at Soldier Field would feature a 10-2 Rams team vs. a 9-3 Bears squad. Basically, a Chiefs win tonight gives the Bears an opportunity to play their way into the two seed. THE TWO SEED.
  • Jared Goff-Sean McVay seems to be the trendy comparison when talking about the potential of Matt Nagy and Mitch Trubisky. Watching them lose on primetime 24 hours after Nagy-Trubisky won on primetime would be briefly vindicating if nothing else.
