Former Illini five-star recruit Jeremiah Tilmon heading to Mizzou

Illinois basketball fans will get to see Jeremiah Tilmon play this season, but he won't be wearing orange and blue.

Tilmon, a five-star recruit from East St. Louis, was announced as a future member of the Missouri Tigers on Monday morning.

Tilmon committed to John Groce and the Illini last summer, but after Illinois made a coaching change earlier this spring, Tilmon asked out of his National Letter of Intent.

While Tilmon said that Illinois was still an option, it didn't look good when the school removed the head coach Tilmon committed to.

Border rivals who play annually in the Braggin' Rights game in St. Louis, Illinois and Missouri might find themselves in plenty more high-profile recruiting battles in future seasons. Both teams made coaching changes this offseason, with Illinois bringing in Brad Underwood and Mizzou hiring Cuonzo Martin.

Illinois has had success recruiting the St. Louis area on the east side of the Mississippi River, including four-star guard and Illinois Mr. Basketball Mark Smith, who committed to the Illini last month.

Meanwhile, Martin has hit a couple recruiting home runs since arriving in Columbia. In addition to Tilmon, the Tigers have also earned the commitment of Michael Porter Jr., the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2017. Two more members of the Rivals 150 will join Porter and Tilmon at Mizzou this fall.
