It was an exciting National Signing Day for Michigan.

Jim Harbaugh capped an insane recruiting period in which he had a slumber party with a recruit and climbed a tree with a star-studded event in Ann Arbor that featured Derek Jeter, Tom Brady and even professional wrestler Ric Flair.

But the biggest deal of the day for Michigan was going on live on ESPN, where the Class of 2016's top-ranked recruit, defensive tackle Rashan Gary, picked the Wolverines over offers from just about every other big-time college football program under the sun.

Harbaugh found out about Gary's commitment backstage during the event, actually watching the decision on ESPN announcer Mike Tirico's phone.

Gary gave Michigan its lone five-star recruit of the 2016 class and helped boost the Wolverines to No. 4 in Rivals' Class of 2016 rankings, trailing just Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State.
