After placing Jeff Glass on waivers, what's next move for Blackhawks in goal?

The Blackhawks placed goaltender Jeff Glass on waivers Wednesday, and are expected to make a corresponding move Thursday morning. But what could that be?

There are really only two options.

The first is that Corey Crawford has been cleared to play and will return against the Anaheim Ducks. Joel Quenneville told reporters in Vegas that Crawford responded "OK" to Monday's practice with the team and that he was on the ice again Tuesday, but his timetable hadn't changed.

The second, and perhaps more likely, is that the Blackhawks will be calling up Jean-Francois Berube from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. He had missed two months with an injury, and has been great in his two starts since returning between the pipes for Rockford, stopping 54 of 58 shots for a .931 save percentage.

The 26-year-old netminder also has appeared in one game for the Blackhawks earlier this season, turning aside 12 of 14 shots (.857 save percentage) in a relief apperance on Dec. 6 against the Washington Capitals.

As for Glass, other teams will have 24 hours to submit a claim for him and if nobody does, he will be reassigned to the IceHogs.

Glass has been one of the feel-good stories in the NHL this season as a 32-year-old rookie, and played well enough to split time with Anton Forsberg in Crawford's absence. But things went sideways in February, where he allowed 16 goals on 125 shots for an .872 save percentage.

Glass will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season after signing a two-year deal with the Blackhawks last February. It's unclear whether or not the Blackhawks have any intentions to re-sign him to ensure goaltending depth, but you hope his play this season has, at the very least, allowed him the opportunity to latch on with an NHL team next year and compete for a backup spot.
