Fred Hoiberg channels his inner Joe Maddon on Kris Dunn: ‘You go, we go'

Cubs manager Joe Maddon knew how important Dexter Fowler was to the Cubs during his two seasons on the North Side, telling the outfielder before every at-bat, "You go, we go."

Fred Hoiberg must see a little bit of a lead-off man in point guard Kris Dun, as he reiterated that same notion following the Bulls' 127-124 win over the Mavericks on Friday.

"I brought him in to my office and I said, 'Listen, I'm going to start giving you some added responsibility. And you're becoming a guy that as you go, we go," Hoiberg told reporters after the game. "'And I'm gonna let you go and control the offense a little bit so he's not looking over his shoulder looking for play calls from me all the time."

The Bulls certainly went as Dunn did on Friday. The second-year point guard poured in a career-high 32 points on 12-for-17 shooting. And although the Bulls were a -2 with Dunn on the floor, his nine assists and four steals went a long way toward the Bulls pulling out their first win of 2018.

Given the Bulls' other options at the point - Jerian Grant was ineffective - Dunn will continue to be the workhorse at the point.
