Bears awarded Packers game ball to coach John Fox

The Bears’ 17-13 win over the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving had myriad heroes, the kind that are awarded game balls for their work: Cornerback Tracy Porter breaking up Aaron Rodgers passes. Jay Cutler playing virtually error-free football in severe conditions. Shea McClellin with 10 tackles. Willie Young with a sack, two Rodgers hits, a tackle for loss.

But in the minds of the Bears themselves, the star of the game was coach John Fox, who’d never won in Lambeau Field. And after some raucous victory moments and hugs with his players in the locker room afterwards, Fox was handed the game ball by Cutler, one of the team’s co-captains for offense.

“It was just to show him that without him and rest of the coaching staff, it never would’ve been possible,” linebacker and defense co-captain Pernell McPhee said. “I think they did a great job of preparing us mentally and physically.

“He’s ‘The General’ right now. We’re the troops. We only go how the General goes. He told us we were going up there and take the game, and we all believed in him.”
