The Bears have agreed to a one-year contract extension with linebacker Lance Briggs that will be effective through the 2014 season.

Briggs has started 137 of his 140 games in Chicago, recording 1,286 tackles, 74 tackles-for-loss, and 13 interceptions since arriving in 2003.

Bears general manager Phil Emery told ChicagoBears.com that he's very excited to keep Briggs on board.

"Lance has been a very valuable and productive member of our team; seven straight Pro Bowls is quite a record of success. This is a very positive step for our team in our efforts to win championships."
