He was signed to be a veteran presence in a promising young secondary, but Antrel Rolle’s first Chicago season has been one he would prefer to forget.
The veteran safety was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Monday, after missing six of the last nine games, two with an ankle injury suffered in the win over Oakland and the last four with a knee injury that occurred during practice at Halas Hall.

Rolle was still the Bears’ sixth-leading tackler going before Sunday’s game against Washington. Finding an adequate replacement has been difficult for the Bears, who used rookie Harold Jones-Quartey vs. Kansas City and Detroit, then Chris Prosinski for the past four games with Rolle out.
Linebacker Pernell McPhee was inactive for the Washington game with a nagging knee injury, but coach John Fox gave no indication that the Bears intended to place McPhee on IR.
