Bears-Raiders: The winner is…

The early 2015 season has not been kind to the Bears, or to “View from the Moon” as far as prognostication. But the Bears are intent on a turnaround against the 2-1 Oakland Raiders, and so is your humble and faithful narrator.

The Bears’ situation at quarterback clearly is one of the most anticipated pregame announcements of Sunday, even with the Bears’ bumbling start and status as one of only three NFL teams winless after three weeks (two of them are in the NFC North: Bears, Detroit).

But even if the Bears are forced to start Jimmy Clausen for a second straight week, they're are unlikely to have anything close to a repeat of the Seattle game on offense or special teams. The Raiders field more offensive firepower than the Seahawks but the Bears’ defense had a breakout game of its own in Seattle, allowing just one Seahawks touchdown and forcing four other possessions to settle for field goals, two with the ball inside the Chicago 15.

The defense returns nose tackle Jeremiah Ratliff from a three-game suspension, and even a lesser Ratliff put a palpable spike in the Bears’ step this week. Ratliff makes Eddie Goldman and the down-linemen better collectively and it was a solid group last Sunday already.

With the defense showing the steps up it has, and changes to the offense either in scheme or quarterback, or both…
