First day camp summary: Sloppy O

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The 2012 Chicago offense made is training-camp debut on Thursday. It was one the group would like to forget.
Balls were fumbled, dropped at a pace that left coaches unhappy and players more than aware that the much-hyped offense has some catching up to do with the defense.
"Can't put the ball on the ground. Cannot put the ball on the ground," said a visibly irritated offensive coordinator Mike Tice. "And cant jump offsides. I know it's the first day and we're working on a lot of things on the line of scrimmage.
"But we also are coming off an off-season of a bunch of practices and a bunch of times that we did it and we did it right. We can't come out the first day and look like we never did it before. So, we're not going to put up with that."
Wide receiver Brandon Marshall may have a distinguished history with quarterback Jay Cutler but it was conspicuously missing on Thursday. Marshall dropped passes and on two occasions slipped on routes on a dry field, leading to incompletions.
"He understands and knows that that's something that we got to work on," said receivers coach Darryl Drake. "We can't drop the football. I expect him to make those non-routine catches, and he expects to make them."
Rookie Alshon Jeffery failed to drive hard and sell a fake against nickel back D.J. Moore, who easily made the camps first interception.
But Jeffery responded to a sharp talking-to from Drake and proceeded to display the hands on difficult catches that led the Bears to have him as their priority in the second round of this years draft.
"I thought for the first day he did a really good job," Drake said. "Really did a good job of coming out of his breaks. He's got a big body.
"When he learns to use that big body consistently, then he'll really be a force to reckon with. But I was pleased with his effort and the way he came out and competed."
