Not a good day for high Bears draft choices

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — The fortunes of a franchise turn in the largest part on the success of its top draft choices. The second day of training camp was not a good one in that regard.

Wide receiver Kevin White, the Bears’ No. 1 pick this year, already is down with a shin injury for an undetermined length of time. By the end of Friday’s practice, cornerback Kyle Fuller, last year’s No. 1 pick, was out with an ankle injury of unknown severity.

“He tweaked his ankle,” coach John Fox confirmed. “I don’t know the extent of it. Obviously I haven’t been inside to meet with the trainers. But we did back off of him some in the late part of practice.”

Nose tackle Eddie Goldman, this year’s No. 2 pick, also was sidelined with a bit of dehydration, mildly surprising for a former Florida State Seminole who’s no stranger to heat.
