Shortly after announcing his desire to pursue a baseball career,  former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow was offered a minor league contract by the Schaumburg Boomers on Tuesday.

The Boomers, an independent organization in the Frontier League, beat other teams to the punch by officially extending an offer to be an outfielder before he works out for professional teams later this month.

Tebow last played organized baseball when he was at Nease High School in Florida prior to becoming one of the most successful college quarterbacks in NCAA history at the University of Florida. His high school baseball coach Greg “Boo” Mullins was always a big believer in Tebow's talent on the diamond, once calling him a "six-tool player".
