Trubisky Time: Multiple reports say Bears making Mitchell Trubisky the new starting quarterback

The Mitchell Trubisky Era will begin a week from today.

According to multiple reports, the Bears will start their No. 2 draft pick in next week's Monday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 9, jettisoning Mike Glennon after four ineffective starts.

The Bears’ coaching staff had the weekend to chew on their quarterback situation and will now have a full week of practice to prepare Trubisky for his first career start.

Trubisky was excellent during preseason play, competing 36 of his 53 passes for 364 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He forced his way into being the Bears’ backup quarterback, beating out Mark Sanchez for that role when the regular season began Sept. 10. The Bears now will see what Trubisky can do when given the opportunity to play in the regular season.

“I’ve seen steady growth,” coach John Fox said about Trubisky on Friday. “It’s altogether different, I think. Most quarterbacks would tell you that. All of a sudden your experiences in college, your experiences in the preseason and then you get to the regular season. People talk about this as well. You get to a playoff game. It ramps off. So you don’t really know that until you put somebody out there. You’d like to have them as ready to take the test as possible and typically the more you study the better you get.”
