Blackhawks cookies a big hit at Mount Prospect bakery

A suburban bakery has caught Blackhawks fever and has taken it to a delicious new level.

Central Continental Bakery in Mount Prospect has created unique cookies featuring Blackhawks logos and player jerseys.

The bakery started making these cookies when the Blackhawks had won their first Stanley Cup in 2010. The bakery had initially started out with a round cookie with the famous Indian head on it, but eventually expanded to player jerseys where "customers just went crazy" for them.

"It's just the excitement and it's electrifying to see the community become excited over a hockey game and a team," said manager Linda Spinelli. "It's amazing what will bring somebody out of a depressed spirit rise up and enjoy themselves. I think that's what it is. Seeing the community get involved."

Bakery artist Jennifer Parkinson says the cookies fly off the shelves. She's already made thousands of them, but she lost count. It's the joy the cookies bring to others that keeps her going.

"Just to see someone smiling from something I did is really awesome," said Parkinson.
