Blackhawks: EA Sports removes Patrick Kane from NHL 16 cover

EA Sports announced Wednesday that Patrick Kane will no longer be featured on the cover of NHL 16 amid the ongoing police investigation involving the Blackhawks star.

"In light of the ongoing investigation involving Patrick Kane, he will no longer be a spokesperson for the launch of EA SPORTS NHL 16," EA Sports said in a statement.

"He will not appear on the EA SPORTS NHL 16 cover nor participate in other EA SPORTS NHL 16 promotional activities."

It was announced at the NHL Awards in June that Kane, along with captain Jonathan Toews, were set to become the first set of teammates ever to appear on EA Sports' NHL cover after winning their third Stanley Cup in six years.

The new NHL 16 cover will only feature Toews, which can be seen below. The video game will be released on Sept. 15.
