Report: Blackhawks one of six ‘strong contenders' for Jimmy Vesey

Jimmy Vesey will become a free agent on Tuesday, and the Blackhawks are reportedly one of six teams in strong to contention to acquire the 23-year-old left winger.

Vesey's agent Peter Donatelli said last month that the Blackhawks would be on the list of teams Vesey planned to speak with. Vesey is a two-time Hobey Baker Award finalist and was named college hockey's top player last season with Harvard. Vesey scored 24 goals and added 22 assists for the Crimson.

Jonathan Toews is expected to be part of the Blackhawks' recruiting pitch to Vesey. Vesey has been connected to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where his father is a scout. The Boston native has been linked to the Bruins as well, although CSNNE's Joe Haggerty reports the Bruins are not considered favorites to land him.
