Brewers ‘favorites' to sign Aramis?

Aramis Ramirez won't be back with the Cubs next year, that much is for certain. But the veteran third baseman could still spend his 2012 season in the NL Central. In fact, maybe just an hour-and-a-half north of Chicago.

The Brewers are now reportedly the "favorites" to sign the 33-year-old slugger according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Haudricourt says he spoke with Ramirez' agent, Paul Kinzer, who considers the Brewers at the front of the pack.

This comes a day after Ramirez was supposedly drawing interest from the Philadelphia Phillies, but the Brewers' interest in A-Ram is hardly new, with the first rumors starting to swirl at the tail-end of last week.

The Brewers reportedly pulled out of the Prince Fielder sweepstakes last night and would need to find offense somewhere this offseason to replace Fielder's big bat.

If Ramirez does sign with Milwaukee, the team will probably use former Cubs prospect Casey McGehee and Mat Gamel in a platoon at first base.

Kinzer states in Haudricourt's article no offer has been made just yet and doesn't know what the odds are of getting a deal done for Ramirez before the winter meetings concluded.
