Cubs: Hot start secures monthly award for Dan Vogelbach

The Cubs rewarded Dan Vogelbach for his monster April by naming the slugger the organization's minor league player of the month.

Vogelbach has been on the Cubs' second tier of top prospects for some time now, overshadowed by the likes of Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler, Javier Baez and Addison Russell. But Vogelbach is out to a fantastic start for Double-A Tennessee, hitting .362 with a 1.064 OPS in April, smashing seven doubles and three homers while drawing 14 walks compared to just 10 strikeouts.

Vogelbach, 22, was the Cubs' second-round pick in 2011 and has yet to show his prodigious power in season (19 homers was his high in 2013), though he has displayed an advanced approach at the plate with a .291/.381/.489 slash line.

Vogelbach has formed a nice bash brothers duo with Schwarber (1.173 OPS) in the Tennessee lineup, as the two have combined for 13 doubles, two triples, eight homers and 29 RBI through the team's first 22 games.

The Cubs also named Class-A pitcher Jeremy Null the minor league pitcher of the month for April. Null, a 21-year-old righty, was 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA and 23 strikeouts and zero walks in 22.2 innings spanning four starts with South Bend.

Null was a 15th-round pick in 2014 and is 4-0 with a 1.40 ERA and 0.905 WHIP in 38.2 career innings.
