Kris Bryant left Monday's game against the Cincinnati Reds after a collision with Albert Almora Jr. in left-center field.

The Cubs announced that Bryant had a contusion on the lower portion of his left leg.

Bryant, playing left field, collided with the center fielder Almora while both were tracking down a fly ball. Bryant held on for the catch, but both players remained on the outfield grass for a moment and were slow to get up. Both Bryant and Almora were well enough to initially remain in the game. But while Almora took his at-bat in the bottom of the fifth, when Bryant's turn came due, he was removed for a pinch-hitter, Matt Szczur, who took over for Bryant in left field.

Bryant hit his 24th home run of the season in the second inning, remaining red hot and showing how much he'd be missed if he were to miss any significant period of time.

Bryant entered Monday's game hitting .277/.367/.564 with a league-leading 23 home runs, a league-leading 64 runs scored and 61 RBIs. He homered, walked twice and scored three more runs in Monday's game before exiting.

The Cubs already lost a young star to an outfield collision earlier this year, when Kyle Schwarber suffered a season-ending injury in Arizona. Meanwhile, starting center fielder and leadoff guy Dexter Fowler remains on the disabled list with a hamstring injury.
