After being on the disabled list for nearly two weeks, Ryan Dempster and Kerry Wood have been activated by the Cubs. Dempster will be the starting pitcher in today's matchup against the Reds.

A strained right quad placed Dempster on the DL on April 21. Since the beginning of the season, he's recorded a 1.33 ERA, averaging 10.2 strikeouts every nine innings pitched during the three starts he pitched leading up to his injury.

Wood went on the DL just one day before Dempster did due to right shoulder fatigue. The right-hander has walked three and struck out four, going 0-1 with an 11.57 ERA in the four relief appearances he's made this season. He threw in a simulated game on Monday to help prepare him for his return to the mound.

Now that they have both been taken off the 15-day DL, pitchers Scott Maine and Randy Wells have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Maine owns a 1.59 ERA in two starts since his recall on April 20. He went 1-0 when starting in Iowa, recording one save and a 1.42 ERA in five relief appearances.

Wells was recalled on April 22, going 0-1 with at 6.23 ERA in his two starts for the Cubs. He's 1-0 with Iowa this season, earning a 9.42 ERA in his three Triple-A starts.
