Derek Jeter's jersey was retired on Sunday night at Yankee Stadium, prompting many to take a trip down memory lane.
While nearly everyone discussed his tremendous career in pinstripes, ESPN's Ian O'Connor tweeted out an old Chicago Cubs scouting report.
The file, which was written before the 1992 MLB Draft, mentioned how Jeter would be worth a $200,000 signing bonus (Uhhh, you think?). It also noted how No. 2 wasn't afraid of the big moment, something he proved time and time again in the big leagues.
Of course, Jeter was selected sixth overall in that draft, before the Cubs could snag him at 11. But it does get you wondering if Jeter -- who won five World Series championships in the Bronx -- could have snapped the curse on the North Side.
The Cubs walked away from that draft with pitcher Derek Wallace, who compiled a 2-4 record in his MLB career. Jeter, on the other hand, tallied over 3,000 hits and is likely a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
