25 Days of Lolla: Chicago hosts World Cup '94

This summer, Lollapalooza is expanding to four days as the iconic festival celebrates its 25th anniversary!

To help celebrate, we will be taking a look at each year of the festival and what was going on in the world of Chicago sports at that time.

Today is all about the year 1994.

Dates: July 7 - September 5
Locations: Throughout North America 
Lollapalooza artists: Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, George Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars, A Tribe Called Quest, Green Day, The Black Crowes, The Pharcyde, The Verve

Notable Chicago sports moment: Chicago was a host city of World Cup '94 and Soldier Field was the location of the opening ceremonies.

How Chicago sports teams fared in 1994:
Bulls: 2nd in Central, lost to Knicks in Conference Semifinals 3-4
Cubs: 5th in NL Central
White Sox: 1st in AL Central (strike-shortened season)
Blackhawks: 5th in Central, lost to Maple Leafs in Conference Quarterfinals 2-4
Bears: 4th in Central, lost to 49ers in Divisional Playoffs 44-15
