Some Illinois natives and current members of the Chicago Fire were in attendance at Tuesday's Cubs game at Wrigley Field, and Eric Gehrig got a chance to throw out the first pitch.

"Yeah, I was nervous but I prepared so - like we prepare in our own sport - I had to prepare for this and I felt pretty good about it," said Gehrig.

The defender tweeted this after his moment at the Friendly Confines:

Gehrig was joined by teammates Chris Ritter and Michael Stephens.

The Fire are headed to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals to square off against the Philadelphia Union on Aug. 12. Needless to say, they're pretty stoked.

"It means a lot to our fans and the club and the city, so we're excited," said Gehrig.

Ritter added, "We're hoping to make a good run and bring a trophy home."

Before that, the Fire will turn their focus to the Western Conference leader, FC Dallas, on Aug. 2.

"It's going to present some challenges for us, but we've built a little momentum in the last few weeks and had some better performances," said Stephens. "Results haven't followed, but hopefully they will this weekend."
