Djordje Mihailovic has been earning minutes off the bench lately for the Chicago Fire and now he will be representing the Fire as part of the MLS All-Star Game festivities.
Mihailovic was selected to play in the Homegrown Game, which will take place the day before the All-Star Game on Tuesday, Aug. 1. He is the only Fire player on the 18-man roster.
The homegrown team, which is comprised of academy products from around the league who are 22 years old or younger, will take on the Under-20 side of Mexican club Chivas de Guadalajara at Toyota Park.
Mihailovic, 18, is in his first season with the Fire. He has made six appearances, all off the bench, in league play for a total of 70 minutes. The Lemont native has come off the bench in each of the last three MLS matches.
The team will be coached by two former Fire forwards with ties to Chicagoland in Brian McBride and Mike Magee. McBride was born in Arlington Heights and went to Buffalo Grove High School. Magee was born in Elmhurst and spent some time at St. Viator High School before joining U.S. Soccer’s residency program in Bradenton, Florida.
