Chris Sale established a new White Sox single-season record for strikeouts on Friday night.
With a called third strike against Detroit's James McCann in the second inning, Sale broke Ed Walsh's 107-year-old single-season strikeout record with his 270th whiff. Sale needed only 203 innings to surpass Walsh, a Hall of Fame inductee, who recorded his in 464 innings during the 1908 season.

Sale entered Friday with an MLB-high 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings. He also leads the majors with 6.51 strikeouts to walks this season. Prior to this season, Sale's career high was 226 strikeouts in 2013.
