Could the Sox and Cubs play three times a year soon?

With Houston moving to the American League West in 2013, the Cubs and White Sox may only meet three times a season in years in which both central divisions don't play each other. In other words, the Cubs and Sox would only meet six times a season once every three years.

Tom Fornelli at South Side Asylum passed along the details on this shift. With 15 teams in each league, there will be at least one interleague series taking place at all times during the regular season, from early April through late September.

In the interest of fairness, this is good -- no more unbalanced slates where one team in the division gets an advantage because of a rivalry, or lack thereof. And last November, when the idea of the Cubs and Sox playing only three times a year was initially broached, a poll we conducted showed opinion was split on how many games the teams should play.
