It looked like the White Sox were heading toward the second bullpen disaster in as many innings.
Then Avisail Garcia came to the rescue in spectacular fashion.
After 7 2/3 dazzling innings from Jeff Samardzija, Zach Putnam blew a 2-0 White Sox lead with one pitch in the eighth inning, surrendering a game-tying blast to Manny Machado. J.B. Shuck bailed Putnam out with a go-ahead RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to put the South Siders back in front. But David Robertson nearly gave up another game-tying blast off the bat of Chris Davis in the ninth. Garcia, though, leaped at the right-field fence and made an incredible catch to rob Davis' homer and keep the White Sox in front.
