Hawk Harrelson has hundreds of requests for his talking alarm clock — including some from Venezuela

Hawk Harrelson alarm clock night is finally here.

As popular as the White Sox latest promotional giveaway was with fans — there were lines to get into Guaranteed Rate Field and to get the clock that spits out Harrelson's classic catchphrases — it was perhaps even more popular with those who know the man himself.

"I've had over 400 requests," Harrelson said Saturday, "on my iPhone from friends all over the country. A couple from Venezuela.

"I told them, 'Buy a ticket to the game, that's the only way you're going to get one.'"

Harrelson said the White Sox gave him about 100 of the talking alarm clocks — even though he hasn't listened to the thing yet. Whether that will be enough to fill the international requests remains to be seen.

But Harrelson loved the idea, talking about how fun it was to film a commercial for the giveaway with MLB Network's Dan Plesac.

"When they first told me about it, I said, 'That's a pretty neat idea.' And as it turned out, it's grown, it's taken a little bit of a life of its own.

"You should've seen Plesac. I wish they would've shown some of the outtakes. 'Plesac, get your bleepity-bleep out of bed!'

"I'm really glad it worked out well. It was a good idea, and it's come to fruition."

The highlight of the night, though, might have been how warmly Harrelson and his family were received by White Sox fans when they threw out a quartet of ceremonial first pitches. Harrelson got a huge ovation from the fans in the stands Saturday night.

But the longest-lasting effect of the first pitch, though, for the 75-year-old announcer might be some arm soreness: "I won't be able to wipe my behind for two weeks, probably," he joked.
