How Jose Abreu went the extra mile for Yuli Gurriel, Astros' Latino players

Jose Abreu went the extra mile this week to help out some Latinos on the visiting Houston Astros.

Yuli Gurriel, a 33-year-old Cuban rookie who plays for the Astros, talked with La Vida Baseball's Clemson Smith Muniz to discuss getting accustomed to the United States from Cuba. Gurriel said that he has adjusted okay, and players have been a big reason why.

When Gurriel walked into the Astros clubhouse on Wednesday, a Cuban meal from a Latino restaurant in Chicago (direct from Punta Cana) was waiting for him and a lot more.

“I know the importance — and how difficult the adaptation process to this league and this country can be,” Abreu told La Vida Baseball. “Being able to find a little taste of our culture in the places we go is very important and reminds us of home.

“That is why I always try to help my fellow countrymen and make them feel comfortable here."

Classy move by Abreu.
