Jenks' ailments continue in Boston

A series of back issues plagued Bobby Jenks in 2011, leading him to throw just 15 23 regrettable innings in the first year of his two-year, 12 million deal with the Red Sox. Over those 15 23 innings, Jenks walked 13 batters -- the same number he walked in 65 innings in 2007.

Jenks already had one procedure performed on his back this winter, and now he's having a second. Whether these problems are related to Jenks' rumored poor conditioning is unknown. But Jenks will be 31 in March, and it looks like he's finally reached a point where his body is breaking down on him.

Too bad. Hopefully he'll be able to come back strong in 2012, but that's looking less and less likely by the day.
