Peavy dominates as Sox drop Mariners

GLENDALE, Ariz.(AP)Jake Peavy threw five hitless innings in his best outing of the spring and the Chicago White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners 5-0 on Saturday.Peavy struck out five and walked one. The right-hander had allowed nine runs in 4 1-3 innings in his previous two starts.Eduardo Escobar, a candidate for a reserve role, hit a three-run homer off Hong-Chih Kuo to give the White Sox a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning.Kuo allowed four runs in an inning.Brent Lillibridge and Gordon Beckham each had a double for the White Sox.Mariners pitcher Blake Beavan, a candidate for fifth starter, allowed a run and three hits in four innings.Seattle finished with two hits.
