Pierzynski out with oblique strain

A.J. Pierzynski is out of Tuesdays lineup with a right oblique strain, manager Robin Ventura said.

The White Sox catcher could also miss Wednesdays game with what team officials described as a very minor strain.

Pierzynski, who is first among American League catchers with 50 RBIs and a .507 slugging percentage and second in a number of other offensive categories, injured himself in his final at-bat on Monday, Ventura said.

Backup catcher Tyler Flowers will start in Pierzynskis place against Minnesota on Tuesday and could get the call on Wednesday, depending on how Pierzynski feels.

The White Sox are off Thursday, which could mean up to three days off for Pierzynski.

Were making sure he takes care of it and it doesnt get any worse, Ventura said. He mentioned it toward the end of (Mondays) game. Hes going to take (Tuesday) off and maybe (Wednesday) depending on how he feels. Catching is fine, but he feels it a little bit when hes swinging.
