Rangers meet with Pierzynski

Free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski is meeting with the Texas Rangers on Tuesday, per a baseball source.

The veteran catcher blasted a career-high 27 home runs for the White Sox last season and tied his career best with 77 RBIs.

He earned 6 million in the final year of a two-year, 8-million deal and said in October he intends to receive a fair contract value for next season.

Earlier this offseason Russell Martin earned 17 million over two seasons from the Pittsburgh Pirates while Mike Napoli agreed to -- though the deal hasn't been finalized -- a 39-million deal over three years from the Boston Red Sox.

Those figures are likely too rich for the White Sox, who believe they have a strong potential starter in Tyler Flowers, and very little money left after signing Jake Peavy, Jeff Keppinger and Gavin Floyd.

ESPN's Bruce Levine initially reported the meeting.
