After watching current ace Chris Sale toss a gem in the White Sox loss to the Rays on Sunday, Sox fans turned their attention to their potential future ace who was pitching the same evening.

Vanderbilt right-hander and Sox 2015 first-round pick Carson Fulmer took the mound for the Commodores in their opening game against Cal State Fullerton at the College World Series in Omaha as they defend their title.

The junior turned in a solid outing on the mound, tossing six innings of four-hit ball, including seven strikeouts and only two walks but gave up three runs. The game was suspended due to rain in the sixth inning and will be resumed today with Vanderbilt trailing, 3-0.

Fulmer ran into some trouble in the third inning, when after giving up a walk, the right-hander balked, sending the runner over to second. Cal State Fullerton would later single in the run. Fulmer also had two wild pitches in the inning to put the runner in scoring position.

Control issues occurred again for Fulmer as a wild pitch in the fifth inning let in another run for the Titans. A few pitches later, Fulmer would give up another RBI hit.

The White Sox prospect threw 105 pitches, 66 of which went for strikes in his outing. Four of his seven strikeouts were looking.

Fulmer is 13-2 on the season with a 1.82 ERA and 152 strikeouts over 114 innings.
