The White Sox have designated Mat Latos for assignment on Thursday.

Pitcher Tyler Danish has been added to the active roster in place of Latos.

The move comes two days after Latos made his final start for the White Sox and less than a week after the team acquired James Shields from the Padres for two minor-leaguers. Latos went 6-2 with a 4.62 ERA in 11 starts for the White Sox this season.

Signed to a one-year deal worth $3 million in February, Latos slumped after he got out to a torrid start. He won his first four starts and had a 0.74 ERA. But over his last seven turns, Latos had a 7.25 ERA in 36 innings. He walked 18 and struck out 19 in that span.

A second-round pick in 2013, Danish is 20-22 with a 3.39 ERA in 78 minor-league games (64 starts). He’s 3-7 this season with a 4.42 ERA at Double-A Birmingham in 12 starts.
