Javy Guerra's return to the White Sox just took a major hit.

On Wednesday, the reliever was suspended for 50 games after failing a second test for a drug of abuse. The suspension is effective immediately.

“We are always very disappointed when one of our players tests positive,” said Buddy Bell, Sox assistant general manager. "But we know the testing program works, and all of our players also know that everyone in the White Sox organization and all of our resources are available to help at all times."

Guerra, 29, appeared in only three games for the White Sox this year, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up two hits, a walk and no runs.

The right-hander has spent most of the season away from U.S. Cellular Field due to injury (right shoulder inflammation). The White Sox sent Guerra outright to Triple-A Charlotte in May where he has struggled, giving up seven earned runs in 3.2 innings.

In 2014, Guerra pitched in 42 games for the Sox, posting a 2.91 ERA over 46.1 innings.
