Less than one week after designating relief pitcher Will Ohman for assignment, the Chicago White Sox released the 34-year-old left-hander today.

Ohman posted a 6.41 ERA in 26.2 innings out of the White Sox bullpen, and surrendered six earned runs in his final five appearances. Chicago demoted him June 28, and purchased the contract of 26-year-old left-hander Leyson Septimo.

In 32 appearances, he finished with an 0-2 record, striking out 13, walking five and allowing six home runs.

A year ago, Ohman posted a 4.22 ERA in 52 appearances in Chicago.

Ohman is now able to negotiate with all 30 teams.

In 10 seasons, Ohman has pitched for the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, Florida Marlins and the White Sox.
