Prior to the world premiere of Comcast SportsNets landmark, behind-the-scenes documentary From the Sports World to the Third World: A Journey to Cambodia, the founders of A New Day CambodiaBill Smith & Joe ONeilalong with CSNs very own Chuck Garfien, made a special live, in-studio appearance on WBEZ 91.5 FMs Afternoon Shift program to talk about this very special two-part production.

Hosted by Chicago media legend Rick Kogan, the trio discussed everything from Smiths earliest visits to poverty-stricken country and how he first became aware of the garbage dump, where countless numbers of children were not only scavenging for items worth pennies (often totaling no more than 10 a month), but even more frightening, this dump is where they lived.

Kogan, who viewed the documentary in advance of the interview, clearly did his homework and asked the trio a myriad of questions ranging from how the Cambodian government is reacting to their cause to how the local fundraisers held by Smith and ONeil enabled A New Day Cambodia to be established to stories about those children whose lives have been forever changed by the loving efforts made by these great men.

Garfien also addressed his initial reactions from his first-ever visit to the country and shared his thoughts about the great honor it was to see what A New Day Cambodia has already doneand will continue to do for many years to come.

Comcast SportsNet would like to once again thank Rick Kogan, producer Katie OBrien, and the entire WBEZ Afternoon Shift team for this most-appreciated opportunity to discuss the Journey to Cambodia documentary. Produced and edited by Sarah Lauch, Part I will air at 7:00pm CT Tuesday night exclusively on Comcast SportsNet, with Part II airing Wednesday night, also at 7:00 PM CT.
