Dempster wins NL honor

It took roughly two months for Ryan Dempster to get his first win of 2012, but the Cubs veteran has now picked up a win in each of his last two starts.

Lucky for him, both those starts came in the past week and Dempster's performance earned him the NL Player of the Week Award.

The 35-year-old starter was 2-0 and led the majors with 15 innings over the week. He did not allow a run and struck out nine.

Dempster received more than enough run support in a 10-0 win over the Brewers last Tuesday before throwing eight shutout innings in the series finale against the Twins Sunday.

This is the second time Dempster has won the award in his career, with the last time coming in 2001 when he was pitching for the Florida Marlins.
