Jacksonville evened the Southern League championship series at a game apiece Wednesday night with a 7-6 victory over Tennessee at Smokies Park.

Jeff Corsalettis sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning brought home the game winner. Ryan Curry led off the inning with a single off Esmailin Caridad. He stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Tennessee catcher Steve Clevenger before Corsaletti lofted a fly ball to right.

The Smokies had tied the score at 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning on Tony Campanas two-run single. Though they put the tying run on again in the ninth courtesy of an Osvaldo Martinez error, they were unable to get Brandon Guyer home after he reached base. Blake Lalli abruptly ended the rally and the game by hitting into a doubleplay.

Chris Carpenter started and was hit hard early, allowing five runs on seven hits over 3 23 innings. It was his shortest Double-A outing since May 28 though he did have a three-inning start against Iowa on Aug. 24. Carpenter had beaten Jacksonville twice during the regular season but came undone in the third inning when he allowed four runs.

Russ Canzler and Tony Thomas combined to go 5-for-8 and score four runs for the Smokies while Guyer had a solo homer. The series shifts to Jacksonville for Game Three on Friday.
