Forbes: Cubs 36th most valuable sports franchise

The Cubs may not have a championship to their name in the last century, but that didn't stop Forbes from naming the Ricketts' franchise the 36th most valuable sports team in the world, valued at 879 million.

Despite the "Lovable Loser" label, the Cubs are consistently one of the more popular baseball teams in the league, regularly crossing the 3 million threshold for season attendance and drawing well on the road.

Of the 50 teams on Forbes' list, 32 were NFL franchises. Of the remaining 18, only six other MLB teams cracked the list. The Yankees (3), Dodgers (6) and Red Sox (24) were the only teams more valuable than the Cubs.

The Phillies, Mets and Rangers filled out the final three spots of the Top 50.
