Hawk Harrelson on his epic rant, rooting interest and more

Ken "Hawk" Harrelson has become a polarizing figure in Chicago.

The White Sox broadcaster has endeared himself to South Side fans with his passionate calls and rooting interest. But it's those same qualities that have brought criticism down on the man known simply as "Hawk."

He went on an epic rant Wednesday after White Sox starter Jose Quintana was ejected in the fourth inning against the Rays. Hawk launched into a tirade that reportedly drove him to take as many as 16 Advil to help quell the headache he worked himself into. Hawk discussed his rant win Mully and Hanley on 670 the Score earlier this morning and also touched on the attitude Robin Ventura has instilled in this team.

ChicagoSideSports.com also recently caught up with Hawk to touch on such topics as Sox vs. Cubs, popular players like Frank Thomas and even controversial issues like Albert Belle (he says he didn't like the former Sox slugger) and steroids.

As for being a homer on the air, Hawk said:

"That, to me, is the greatest compliment that can be paid to an announcer," he told Daniel I. Dorfman from ChicagoSide. "I want the White Sox to win. When they win, there is no one person happier than I am. When they lose, there is no one more down than I am.

"I have some detractors, as every announcer does, and I have fans who love Hawk, and I think one of the reasons why is that I am a White Sox guy and I give the other team credit, but I want the White Sox to win."
