Northern Illinois University and head coach Rod Carey have come flying out of the recruiting gates for the Class of 2018. Just over a week after signing its 2017 class, NIU was able to add its third known in-state verbal commitment tonight from Plainfield East junior defensive tackle recruit Jack Sullivan (6-foot-5, 245 pounds).

"I went up to NIU today with my Mom and I went to give NIU my verbal commitment," Sullivan said. "NIU just feels right and they have a lot to offer so I committed."

Sullivan, who played defensive end and tight end for the Bengals, discussed why he decided to end his recruiting process early and pledge to the Huskies.

"NIU is close to home. They offer a great business program and they also play great football," he said. "I really like the coaches at NIU and they are all just great people. Once NIU offered me I was really more and more interested in them. I didn't want to wait and I also didn't want to drag out my recruiting process. I feel great about my decision and I wanted to lock it down."

Sullivan joins Danville offensive tackle Julian Pearl and Andrew tight end Mike DeHaan in the NIU Huskies Class of 2018.
