SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly announced Tuesday cornerback KeiVarae Russell has been fully cleared by the NCAA to play for the Irish this fall.

Kelly and Notre Dame were confident the NCAA would clear Russell, who's practiced with the team since camp began earlier this month in Culver, Ind. The senior was suspended for the 2014 season and 2015 spring semester after the university found him guilty of academic dishonesty.

During Russell's suspension, he took classes through the University of Washington and checked all the boxes necessary to be cleared to return to play by the NCAA.

Kelly said fifth-year defensive end Ishaq Williams, who was also suspended as part of the same investigation last year, completed the appeal he had to personally put together to send to the NCAA. Williams has not practiced with Notre Dame since camp began.
