Notre Dame's 2019 football schedule is starting to take shape.

The New Mexico Lobos will travel to South Bend to take on the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame Stadium on Sept. 14, 2019. It marks the first time the two schools will square off.

It will be a homecoming for Lobos head coach Bob Davie, who served as head coach of Notre Dame from 1997-2001. Davie led the Fighting Irish to their first BCS Bowl berth in 2001, a Fiesta Bowl loss to Oregon State. During his tenure with the Irish, Davie compiled a 35-25 record.

"It's exciting for our entire program to have this opportunity to play at the University of Notre Dame on national television in front of a sold out stadium," Davie said in a press release. "I know our fans will also be thrilled to see this addition to our 2019 schedule."

"This is an exciting game for our program, against one of the all-time great programs in the history of college football," New Mexico Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs added. "The atmosphere around Notre Dame football will be a tremendous experience for our fans and our student-athletes. Notre Dame has a tremendous history, and our head coach was a part of that history, which makes this game even more special."
