Report: Notre Dame reached out to TCU for home-and-home series

Notre Dame has home-and-home series scheduled out for the next decade against big-time, perennially-powerful programs. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Jack Swarbrick & Co. tried to add TCU to that list.

The date Notre Dame proposed conflicted with TCU's Big 12 schedule, but the Star-Telegram's Mac Engel writes that a date could still be agreed upon in the future.

TCU has impressively revived its national profile after four seasons in the Big 12. Gary Patterson's Horned Frogs have been in the College Football Playoff discussion the last two seasons, finishing third and seventh in the final AP polls and ripping off a 23-3 record. TCU won at least 11 games in six of its final seven seasons in the Moutain West Conference before joining the Big 12 in 2012.

Adding TCU would get Notre Dame back into Texas, an important recruting state for the program's national profile. Notre Dame will play two games in Texas in 2016 (the season opener against Texas in Austin and the Shamrock Series game against Army in San Antonio), and also has a home-and-home series scheduled against Texas A&M in 2024 and 2025.

If Notre Dame were to add TCU, the Horned Frogs would join Michigan State (2016, 2017; 2026, 2027) Georgia (2017, 2019), Ohio State (2022, 2023) and Texas A&M on future Irish schedules. Notre Dame is also reportedly expected to announce a re-start of the Michigan rivalry game on Thursday.
