Police Superindendent: Torres hit ‘borderline criminal'

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy was at the United Center during Game 3 of the playoffs between the Blackhawks and Coyotes and couldn't help but comment on what he viewed as criminal-like misconduct during the matchup.

In an interview with Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed, McCarthy didn't hold back his opinion on Raffi Torres' brutal hit on Marian Hossa.

"It was borderline criminal conduct. Hockey is a tough game that's played rough. But if you play fair, it's not dirty."

On top of the hatred targeted toward him for his inappropriate hit, Torres also stepped out of bounds with Chicago's fan base.

"Torres was acting insane. He was cursing the fans and pointing his stick at them. What Torres did could jeopardize two careers and two livelihoods."

"What happened should merit a lifetime band from the National Hockey League."

Torres had a meeting with the NHL Friday afternoon to determine an appropriate punishment for his vicious hit. The League just released that they will not give a disciplinary decision until Saturday.
