Prairie Ridge returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and never looked back, beating No. 14 Morgan Park 20-6 Saturday in the Class 6A second round playoff showdown in Crystal Lake.

Wolves quarterback Stephen Covalt ran for 121 yards on 23 carries and running back Connor Greenwald ran for 97 yards on 17 carries. Both players rushed for one touchdown.

But Prairie Ridge got things rolling right away when linebacker Luke Lamar returned the opening kickoff for a 99-yard touchdown. It was his second return touchdown of the season.

It was all blocking, Lamar said. I just found the hole and ran through it.

Prairie Ridge held Mustangs star running back Brandon Peppers to 78 yards on 17 carries. Scrambling quarterback DaeShaun Hurley ran for 72 yards and a touchdown with a fumble. Morgan Park turned the ball over twice in the red zone.

We knew they were going to be fast, Lamar said of Morgan Parks offense. We were able to relieve the pressure on our offense."
