The 2016 McDonald's All-American Game festivities will bring a unique experience to Chicago this year as it was announced on Thursday morning that the Chicago Theatre will host the game's slam dunk and 3-point contest on March 28.

The historic, 95-year-old theater located on State Street in the Loop has never hosted a live sporting event other than weigh-ins for MMA and UFC fights. While most known for concerts and comedy performances, the Chicago Theatre's stage will be transformed into a half court with a basketball hoop placed upstage center that should put audience members close to the action.

In the five years the McDonald's All-American Game festivities have been in Chicago, the Powerade Jam Fest and 3-point contest were held at Chicago State or the University of Chicago. The new location for these events at the Chicago Theatre should make for an interesting spectacle and one that is more centrally located in the city than previous South Side locations.

The McDonald's All-American Games returns to the United Center for the sixth consecutive year on March 30 as the girls game tips at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game following around 8 p.m.
