Lenti, who led the Caravan to 11 state championships, posted a 355-73 record in 33 seasons as Mount Carmel's head coach. Friday, he released a statement claiming he is not retiring but has instead been relived of his coaching duties.

"While I had hoped to honor the commitment I had given the Mount Carmel football student-athletes and families that I would coach them through their time at Mount Carmel, the administration has decided otherwise," Lenti's statement read. "Contrary to what some may have heard, I am not retiring. I love coaching high school football and may pursue that at some point in the future. I will honor my commitment to Mount Carmel and will resume my daily duties in the Development Department for the time being."

Lynch, who graduated from Mount Carmel in 2009, starred at Northern Illinois and was a Heisman Trophy finalist as a senior in 2013. Lynch returned to NIU last season as assistant, coaching running backs.
